After Lunch, accompanied by the driver Xiaopang, Cao Rui and Doctor Xie, we paid a visit to Yuzhong County. It takes about 1.5 hour to get toLanzhou City Loess dust along the way, very poor road conditions just make our drive like the roller coaster ride, my heads almost touched the roof several times. April's weather has been very hot. Here is hard to imagine how, the parents woke up at 3 am just to carry the sick child to the station on foot.

用過午餐由小胖司機，曹蕊及小謝醫師陪同拜訪了榆中縣。
由蘭州市需要差不多一個半鐘頭的車程。一路上黃土飛揚，
路況極差如坐雲霄飛車，顛得頭頂幾次幾乎要碰到車頂．四月的天氣已經十分的悶熱。真是難以想像這裡的父母如何在清晨三點起來，就為了將生病的孩子徒步背到車站。

Out of the welter of dust, the car came to the girl's home. On arid barren land, they only grow some type of potatoes for a living. Parents are mentally retarded, with help from cousin, eight-year-old girls - Gao have registered for the next heart surgery for children. Gao was raised by her grandmother, to see the stranger, she was too shy to hide behind her grandmother. Their house looks like a cave which has neither electricity nor water. When they take us as the guest of honor use a little boiled potatoes and salt (salt is extremely valuable) to entertain us, I can not help but shed tears.

車子在飛揚的塵土中來到高小妹的家。高家靠貧瘠乾旱的土地種一些土豆維生。 父母皆是智障，由表哥幫助，八歲的女童﹣高佳麗 已登記為下一批貧困地區兒童心臟手術。 高佳麗 小妹妹由老奶奶扶養，見到生人不停地躲在奶奶背後怯怯地看著我們．環視這家泥土砌成的像窯洞房子的四周既沒有水也沒有電。當他們用一盤水煮的土豆和少許的鹽（鹽是極其寶貴的）如上賓般招待我們時，我不禁要流下眼淚。

Later, grandmother showed us with the kitchen, just like the picture shows, at the corner of the room stood a tank of muddy water, only when a question was asked did we know its their daily drinking water. Then turned to see a black and yellow tone bread. Cao Rui tells us is that parents bring their children to the hospital post-operative nutrition. This reminds me of the scene in the hospital, they dip the dry bread with water and then use only this for after-surgery nutrition for the children to eat. 老奶奶帶我們看了她們的廚房，屋角放著一缸混濁的水，一問之下才知道就是她們的日常飲水。再轉身看到一盤黃黃黑黑的麵食。曹蕊告訴我們它們就是父母帶去醫院給孩子手術後的營養品。 這讓我想起在醫院的窗臺上那一排乾乾的饅頭就是用來泡水給手術後的孩子喫的。 寫到這裡我們要謝謝加州及加拿大的朋友捐獻的營養費。請大家繼續支持小紅巾計劃。

Ping and I flew to Lanzhou via Taipei and Guangzhou, China. Just before landing, all I could see was the sprawling hilly land of yellow soil without any green areas. We were very thankful to have Cao Rui, the regional representative of Little Red Scarf Project in Lanzhou, picked us up at the airport. Cao Rui, being the most loving and caring friend that we know, motivated us to take this trip to Lanzhou by showing us her selfless commitment in serving the community. It was approaching nightfall so we hurriedly headed off to the city of Lanzhou to check into the hotel.

我們由美國舊金山經由臺北，廣州飛往蘭州。在到達之前從飛機往下看是一望無際的黃土坡地，竟然看不到任何綠地．謝謝曹蕊接機。曹蕊(cao rui)是我們所知最富愛心的朋友。她也是 小紅巾計劃 駐在甘肅蘭州的代表。她的故事感動了我們，也促成我們這次的甘肅蘭州之行。此時天色已晚，我們直接前往蘭州市區．Check in hotel.

April 7, 2009. 

At 8:30 AM, we went to the Lanzhou General Hospital to meet with the Medical Team of the Red Scarf Project and to have a briefing from team leader Dong. All the team members were well-trained and very compassionate. The 2009 plan of the Red Scarf Project is to fund 100 ailing children to be selected from the most poverty-stricken families, to receive proper medical assistance. The group of ten who were receiving the treatment in April consisted of children ranging from two to twelve of ages. These children were brought to the hospital by their parents from various villages of Qin-An County and most of them underwent a trip on foot of more than a day.

清晨  8:30am 我們前往蘭州 總醫院拜會小紅巾醫療團隊並聽取董主任的簡報．醫療團隊的素質極高並富愛心。小紅巾計劃2009年將資助 選自全甘肅省最貧窮家庭的 一百位孩子。在這裡他們應可得到最好的治療。

四月份這一批包括十個年齡由兩歲至十二歲不等的孩子們。他們已經由父母從秦安縣不同的村落經過超過一天的路程來到醫院等候手術治療。

When we first met the children who were sitting quietly on the bedsides, we were shocked by their inactivity and lacking of the liveliness of a typical youngster.  Looking at the bluish-grey discoloration of their faces, skin and nails, it was obvious that they suffered from congenital heart defect (CHD). CHD is a defect in the structure of the heart and great vessels of a newborn. Most heart defects either obstruct blood flow in the heart or vessels near it or cause blood to flow through the heart in an abnormal pattern. Gradually through their gazes, some of the children started revealing a tint of their innocence, anxiety, and expectation. The emotion and anticipation impacted the parents even more. Their tearing eyes bared their endless fear of losing their own children and their high hopes of having a healthy and lively child.

見到孩子們的第一印像是每個孩子都安靜的坐在床邊，沒有同年齡孩子應有的活潑． 發紫的臉頰，皮膚粗糙的雙手和泛紫的指甲都是先天性心臟不健全的徵狀．孩子們的眼神流露出一些天真，一些不安，還有一些期待．相對之下，父母親們顯得更為激動。從他們帶著淚水的眼裡，我們可以感受到父母日日夜夜怕失去孩子的恐懼和各種生活上的磨難。年復一年的 盼著盼著有一天．．．他們的孩子能像其他孩子一樣
健康，臉色紅潤充滿活力。

歹棟棟，十一歲男孩．靦齻的笑容，最喜歡上學．媽媽說他盼望著重回學校和同學打球．

 

張娟娟，一個特別安靜的十二歲女孩．身體上的不適使她更加地沉默，上學和跳繩是她的最愛。






郭国杰， 兩歲，小小的個子非常的調皮，一歲時發現有病。

蔺鑫，男，4岁，甘肃天水地区秦安县西川乡人。

焦文慧，十歲，驚嚇和生氣會使她發病．

高唅，四歲，家裡另有一個心臟病的孩子。

錢紫照，七歲，因供氧不足常需要蹲下．想極了去上學。
