I must note how impressed I am by Team HBV's growth over these past years. Although we have a long way to go and must not be complacent, we nonetheless have a lot to be proud of.
When I first joined the Jade Ribbon Youth Council as a junior in highschool (in 2006 I believe), I remember the ALC was located in a tiny, one room office. We were mostly focused on HBV awareness in the bay area and Team HBV collegiate chapters were just beginning to appear.
But since then, the JRYC gained greater publicity and established an annual HBV and Liver Cancer Awareness week which was adopted by more cities in the bay area with each subsequent year. The ALC moved into a new office and our events grew more diverse and unique. HepB Free was established in San Francisco and was acknowledged and supported by politicians including Nanci Pelosi, and recently it has spread to and been implemented in San Mateo's HepB Free program. YLC matured and garnered great participation and popularity as well, becoming more theme oriented and organized. The HepB moms project bloomed and a new, wonderfully designed website was launched, complete with public service announcements and a new documentary for mothers and their children. The ALC also began corporate outreaches for corporations such as Cisco Systems and IBM and is currently working on outreach for their Chinese affiliates. The Jade Ribbon Campaign spread to China and sunshine volunteers joined the ranks of the Team HBV chapters that appeared across the U.S. And now, here we are, listening to each other's ideas and stories about past and future events at the inaugural Team HBV conference.
I am very excited for the future, but I am also proud of all that the ALC and Team HBV has accomplished so far.
