The Zigen Fund is a 501(C)3 nonprofit that supports grassroots efforts for sustainable development in the rural areas of China. Zigen's work relies on private contributions and volunteers in the U.S., Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and other areas. Since 1988, Zigen accomplished effective projects in 265 villages, 45 counties and 11 provinces, mainly in Guizhou, Yunan, Guangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Heibei. Shanxi, and the migrant workers' communities in Beijing. By 2008, Zigen had provided more than 80,000 scholarships for children (mainly girls) to go to school; supported school and village libraries, literacy classes, women health workshops, village clinics, household bio-gas and small hydro power station. As the government started to implement free compulsory education in China, Zigen continues to support more projects in enhancing quality school education, promoting adult education, access to basic health care, and other rural development areas.

Quotations
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. --Margaret Mead
How selfish soever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature, which interest him in the fortune of others, and render their happiness necessary to him, though he derives nothing from it except the pleasure of seeing it. ---Adam Smith

About Me
I grew up and was educated in China. My first visit to the U.S. changed my life--it has my dreamed free community libraries among other public goods. I left my academic career and had myself reeducated in economics and nonprofits. My goal is to connect talents and resources for the willing nonprofit leaders in China to grow.
