Prompt # 2:

          Do you know how important community service is? It is important to me because without the community’s help, the world wouldn’t be in the  position as it is now. Volunteering at a young age like I did means that I will have more experience for when I get older. At any time in life, people can assist others because a little help goes a long way. As for me, the Girl Scouts and Leos Club are two groups that I am a part of that help the community in various ways.
          The Leos Club is a group of young people who help raise money for charities. I recently joined this organization and so far, the people that are in it have interesting ideas in how we can benefit a certain charity or a group of people in our very own neighborhood. We have raised money for Breast Cancer by participating in a walk. We have also done a toy and coat drive and plus raised money for Haiti by selling raffle tickets. In addition, the group and I have also fed the homeless and poor in our city along with other Leos and Lions of Brooklyn and Queens. It is important to support these people because there are a lot of them who can’t afford to buy food and it results in them dying from hunger. Approximately three million people are homeless each year in the United States and by doing this service, I feel so joyful that the people we helped are also happy because they get to have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal.
          The Girl Scouts is another nonprofit organization that helps the community by making a little change with a big impact like planting trees or recycling! Being a part of this amazing group since the age of five means that I am familiar with the other girls and the leaders, making it more comfortable for me to go out into the world as a Girl Scout and fulfill my duties. It is important to plant trees because it’s part of nature and it provides us with oxygen, and without it, we wouldn’t be alive. In the Girl Scouts, we also talk about different ways to help the community that benefits both us and the lives of the people we are trying to be of service. With the help of young girls like us, we are able to do awards that help the community with our unique ideas to make the world a better place.
          To me, community service means helping other people whether it is assisting your neighbor plant flowers, or even wash their car! It is important because we (the neighborhood, city, state, etc.) need help practically everyday for the littlest things. The saying “what goes around, comes around” works great when it comes to community service. It is significant to help others and volunteer your time because when you help someone else in their time of need, that might come back around to you as a random act of kindness. Age is just a number and it should not stop someone from lending a hand to an elderly woman with her grocery bags, for example. The importance of volunteering will make great changes for the next generation.
