AED is currently conducting research on newborn and maternal health in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). This 18-month project, funded by the National Institute of Health in the United States, is a collaborative effort between AED, the Mentsikhang Traditional Tibetan Medicine and Astrological Hospital, the University of Utah Medical School, and the University of California, San Francisco. They plan to design and implement qualitative and quantitative research on household-level beliefs/practices during labor and delivery and time after birth. Based on the results, the team will devise strategies that can help prevent maternal and newborn deaths in rural Tibet.

AED is currently conducting research on newborn and maternal health in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). In the past, AED has provided technical assistance to strengthen the Department of Ethnic Minority Education in China in areas such as policy formulation and implementation, education research, bilingual education, and education management information systems.

Also, the Beijing Association of STD and AIDS Prevention and Control asked AED to help design a prevention intervention for Beijing sex workers. AED interviewed sex workers about their backgrounds, lifestyles, STD and HIV risk behaviors, and other risk factors. Afterwards, AED made recommendations to the concerning HIV prevention intervention.

The Academy for Educational Development operates programs under grants and contracts for government and international agencies, educational institutions, foundations, and corporations. AED activities aim to improve quality and equity in education, foster positive youth development, and build leadership capacity in community-based and non-governmental organizations.
