Student volunteers organize and participate in community health screenings located at the Chinese Consolidate Benevolent Association. The screening involves students taking screening participants' medical history, BMI, blood pressure measurements, urine analysis, blood sugar and vision testing. Our mentors and physician volunteers will then interpret these results to the participants. Students also are involved in kidney health education by providing basic information on how to prevent from having kidney disease to community members. We offer these free screenings to community members who traffic the Chinatown area, and have received the generous offer of the CCBA to host these screening every first Saturday of the month. It is also one of very few clinical experiences where we receive hands-on training. Under the mentorship of Harvard Medical students and physician volunteers from Brigham and Woman's Hospital, we are able to learn a lot about not only the techniques of health screening, but also how to better serve our community through health promotion and disease prevention.
