This website is so cool. I use it with my little cousins all the time to play games to get them to learn how to read. I wonder if something similar but not so juvenile can be done with adults?

Websites like http://www.literacydirectory.org/ hope to get illiterate people into programs, but the problem is, if they can't read very well, how do they find the ads/websites? If they are not literate, what are the chances that they are internet saavy? These missing links in the system make me very confused. It then relies too much on their friends/family to get them enrolled. I like it better when people have more autonomy.

Next time you donate, think about donating to programs that teach students not only how to be literate, but computer literate. Students who aren't are so disadvantaged in this day and age.

Going home for thanksgiving? Staying on campus to finish work? Visiting a friend for the weekend? Happy Thanksgiving everyone! See you back on EV after a lot of home cooked meals and turkey :).

For anyone out there looking for a cause, try match websites like http://www.volunteermatch.org/ for your community. I think the worst thing is not having something to care about. For me, I'm into literacy programs because education is the foundation to accessing help and resources.

How did you guys find your cause?

As someone lucky enough to go to a school that makes sure students can afford tuition, I'm saddened by what happens at some other universities. Post secondary education should not come down to money.

'New Moon' among popular movies that aid literacy

I'm up for all ways of increasing child literacy, even if it means reading Twilight. Thanks Meyers! Just like Rowling, she's getting a generation of preteens and teens to read.

Womb Transplants may Soon be a Reality

British scientists believe that the first-ever successful womb transplant will be carried out within two years. Amazing. Another new approach to rising infertility in the 20th century? Definitely tracking this story.

College is hard. Sometimes, its really easy to want to give up and not do extracurriculars and just study. When you have a 10 page paper and a pset due in the next two days, do you really want to go out and volunter? A lot of us do say "yes", but what gives us the strength and drive to do it? I like to help other people, but sometimes it feels like there's just not enough time.
