Tim Tebow is the star college football quarterback for the Florida Gators - the National Champions two of the past three seasons.
Tebow has the skill set to have had the chance to skip college this upcoming 2009 season by entering the NFL draft and turn professional. Why would someone who already won the Heisman Trophy – the highest individual honor in college football – and fulfilled the highest goal for a college football team – winning a national championship (twice) – want to give up millions of dollars to stay in school? Because he (1) wanted to finish what he started, (2) be loyal to the University of Florida, and (3) enjoy his senior year.
As a sports fan, he is someone who I look up to. He has great character, is a role-model for young children, and commits his time to serving those who are less fortunate and struggle in life.
Urban Meyer, University Florida head coach, echoes my sentiments in saying, “his whole life is about service. He works with his father as a missionary and runs an orphanage in the Philippines. His whole world is about excelling in everything he does, but on top of that he gives back constantly.”
You would think his college football team’s goal is winning games, but Tebow says it’s more about service.
“Our goal is changing our community for the better, our state for the better, and our country by going out there and donating time, money, effort and support to everything we can to make this world a better place.”
It is inspiring to see someone who in on a pedestal going out of his way to serve because of his strong beliefs.
