In March 2001 I brought my daughter who had congenital heart defect to the USA to seek medical help. Originally a foundation was supposed to help us, but the funding was cancelled because of the 911 terrorist attack. We arrived at the New York Airport with no one to meet us. A Christian brother whom we did not know offered to help. With the help of the brothers and sisters of a church in New York, I came to know God through studying the Bible and I learned how to pray. I searched everywhere for medical help and also prayed that God would provide the funds. Every day God let us experience Him and He moved many people from different ethnic backgrounds to help us sacrificially. Through the prayers of many brothers and sisters God led me from nothing to abundance.
Our heart surgeon was confident he could help my daughter. During that time I was confident that after surgery my daughter would become a healthy child. Yet, two months after the second surgery she left us. I was full of sorrow and pain to the point of doubting God’s love. I did not understand why God would let me see a ray of hope and then closed the door. Why would God not hear the loving prayers of so many brothers and sisters? Amidst the struggle in my mind and the comfort of brothers and sisters I had a feeling that the story of Kexin, my daughter and me had not ended.
Surrounding my home in China there are many families with children who also suffer from heart diseases. Through the newspapers and other news media people heard our story and contacted us. When I saw these helpless children, it reminded me of my own journey searching for medical help. I put them in touch with Christian Herald Organization and I shared the gospel with them at the same time. As six months flew by, I discovered that five of the families had accepted the Lord. Many of them now go to a local church. A child of one of the families died after surgery. I was able to encourage them by sharing my own experience and read to them the word of God. I can see that my sharing and God’s word can help them come out of their pain and sorrow. “Ping and Amy Chao Family Foundation” and “Christian Herald Organization” are now trying to help all these sick children in Gansu. They want to give the children hope and normal lives. Through all these I learned about God’s will. “If a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it produces many seeds.” Through this journey I have learned my lesson on faith.
