Helping our community is very important; people are impacted by the actions people make. If more people volunteer, the world would be a much happier, cleaner and better place. There are many people, places and animals that are in need of help and by at least having a person lend a helping hand can make a big difference. You don’t have to be an expert to help others; all you really need is the commitment. You just have to find an organization or charity that interests you. We all have the responsibility to help make our community a better place to live in. And let’s admit it, our community is not perfect. There is always something we can improve, we just have to look at our surroundings and make the best of it. We also gain recognition and acknowledgement from people when we volunteer for a good cause.
Community service is important in my life because it helps me gain confidence and makes me feel as if I have a purpose to help the community improve. I like the feeling of knowing that I am making a difference in the community or even in someone’s life. I enjoy helping those in need and make their lives better in any way possible. I have helped many through community service and extra curricular activities I participated on during school clubs. For example, Peer Assistance Leadership, The Community Service Club, American Cancer Society Youth Club, Link Crew and am currently the treasurer of the Fashion Club. I have spent countless hours doing community and school services through these organizations. I volunteer during my free time and have had the opportunity of communicating with individuals at all levels.
Most people volunteer to help show those who are not as fortunate that there is still good in this world. By just showing kindness and giving some of your time to help them gives them hope, especially if they have lost a family member, a home or even their job. There are countless places that offer you the opportunity to volunteer, such as hospitals, retirement homes and animal shelters. You may also help a friend, teacher and neighbor, which are also good acts of volunteering. There are infinite problems in the world and if people gather to solve and work on those problems, most of them will go away. Even the smallest events can make a big difference, like taking care of animals at a shelter hoping that they will get adopted soon or staying after school to help clean the campus. No matter what it is, anything can bring a smile to a persons face as long as it is a positive difference.
By helping the community you also become a good role model. There are many children who look up to their older siblings, so if they see that you are participating in extra curricular activities, community service and other things that are a positive influence in our community then they will most likely grow up to do the same. It always feels good to help the less fortunate and you also gain confidence in yourself. It is a life changing and rewarding experience because you become a part of the community. Plus many jobs require experience, volunteering is a good way to build up a good resume. You also boost your self-esteem and are given the opportunity to meet individuals from all ages and backgrounds. Not only does volunteering change your life but you change the lives of many. Volunteering isn’t just about giving some of your time; it’s about making a difference in peoples lives.
Overall, volunteering is a vital part of our society. If it wasn’t for volunteering opportunities, our community would have been much worse. There are no negative influences that are brought in volunteering. Instead of most teenagers spending their time on the computer or playing video games, they can spend their time doing community service to help them promote a good image. Mostly everyone thinks to themselves, “I need to change for the better; I want to make a change.” If everyone can donate their time for at least once a year, so many people who are in need of help will have fewer problems, animals will not suffer as much and places like beaches and parks will be a lot cleaner. You gain a sense of satisfaction and self-worth by contributing some of your time for the well-being of others. Volunteering is a great way to help not only yourself become a better person but it is a positive influence that makes the world become a happier place to live in.
