Impressed by Shang Hai culture. Incredible new friends and food. Empower migrant children?

This first week in ShangHai has been a whirlwind of learning, experiencing, and making new friends. We have been seeing the city: The Bund, Yu Garden, Cheng Huang Temple, The Oriental Tower, HuangPu River! All these exciting new sights and sounds. But what I think I enjoy the most is just the time I get to spend learning from and hanging out with the Chinese students. I really have made new friends in them.

I am especially excited for the MMK project next week. Because I am interested in social work in China, this project will really be my first opportunity to be involved in this area. I want to learn more about the issues with migrant children, but more importantly, I think I will enjoy the chance to just interact with and spend time with the children. We have a lot of games and lessons planned as a team. Seeing the living situation and school of the children really breaks my heart. But that is even a greater opportunity to reach out to them.

I'm so grateful to the Chau foundation for funding this coming event, as well as East Villagers for providing us a space to share our ideas and experiences. Can't Wait!!!
