This short film came up on TV when I was browsing through the channels last night. A bittersweet story about a friendly rivalry between a nine-year-old and her mother's new boyfriend. Directed by Renuka Jeyapala. Only 15-ish minutes long but a definite must-see. Not sure where you would be able to access it though.
Finally got a letter from my sponsored child Enkzul from Mongolia! I've been waiting for this letter for a while now. I can't believe she just celebrated her eighth birthday - I still remember the first time I saw her picture when she was one. Time really flies by! Since she had just enrolled in first grade, she is busy settling into her new school and meeting new friends - not unlike what I'm doing myself. She seems to be enjoying herself, and ends her letter as usual with a little sketch of Mongolian sceneries. When I first volunteered to sponsor her with my allowance, I had not expected to be able to get to know her well. After all, we live in different parts of the world and will probably never meet. As time passed and we started writing letters to one another, however, I was amazed at how much I learnt about her through her writings. At first, because she was too young, her mother updated me on their lives; as she grew older, she was able to tell her mother what to write; and now, she is beginning to be able to write the letters on her own. Although we speak different languages and her letters are translated from Mongolian to English, I really feel like I am talking to her personally when she recounts her experiences with her friends and family at school and at home. I really do believe that she will continue to blossom into an amazing young girl with a beautiful heart.
Here is a picture taken of us when I went to see her in Mongolia two years ago. I really hope I can go visit her again!
